Choose an OS Patch Management Policy

JumpCloud’s automated patch management helps you monitor which version and release your Windows, macOS, and Linux devices are currently using, and remotely manage update availability and the installation of those updates.

An OS patch management policy can control when devices can see available OS upgrades and minor updates and how long an update can be deferred. Don’t apply multiple patch policies to a device.

These patch policies are available for Mac, Windows, and Linux devices:

OS Policy Name Description
macOS Automatic MacOS Updates

Lets you manage and enforce when major OS upgrades and minor update patches are available and applied to your devices. You can also configure how much flexibility your users have in delaying or installing the update. See Create a MacOS Patch Policy.

Windows Configure Advanced Windows Updates

Allows you to control when and how Windows updates and upgrades are downloaded and delivered. See Create a Windows Patch Policy.

Linux Configure Ubuntu Updates

Enables you to defer the availability of OS release upgrades (for example, upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04), as well as restrict updates to only LTS releases. It provides functionality equivalent to the Software and Updates desktop program on the device, plus the additional ability to delay OS release upgrades. See Create a Linux Patch Policy.

JumpCloud furnishes four ready-to-use default patch policies for each of these OS types:

  • Windows
  • Linux
  • Mac

Go to DEVICE MANAGEMENT > Policy Management, then select Patch Management. Select the OS tab and click Load Default Policies and Policy Groups to load and view the default policies. Use these default policies to quickly create patch policies for different devices or groups of devices:

Contact your Account Manager if you’re interested in adding OS and browser patch management to your package or to learn more about the solution. Pricing for patch management is located at https://jumpcloud.com/pricing.
